Boswell’s students became the first group of children to see the much anticipated new Zac Efron movie, ‘Me and Orson Welles’ at a private screening at the school Filmclub this week. The students were invited to meet the director of the film, ‘School of Rock’ director Richard Linklater at a Q and A with Filmclub in London. So that they could ask him about his new movie, the distributors sent a screener to show them the movie- previously screened at the Toronto Film festival and Sundance, but not released here until December. ‘The film is set in the 1930’s,’ said 12 year old Mariam Ahsan.’ We loved it- it’s not a typical Zac Efron movie as he is a bit more grown up.’ Ben Angus ( 12) said’ I preferred ‘School of Rock’, but the girls liked the romantic theme of the film.’ whilst Stuart Wilson (12) said’ The film is all about theatre and there is lots of Shakespeare in it, because Orson Welles is producing Julius Caesar when the Zac Efron character gets involved.

At the Q and A, Boswell’s students were filmed asking questions of Mr Linklater. In answer to a question from Danny Stone in year 8, he confirmed that although there had been discussions about 'School of Rock 2' he didn't think he and Jack Black would be re-visiting the much-loved movie as they didn't want to repeat the same story. He also spoke about how Zac Efron had become involved in his new movie, and how he himself got started in the film business. All the students received a goodie bag with filmclub T shirts and caps. Boswells Filmclub leader Julia Frascona commented ‘We are having some very exciting experiences with our Filmclub this year. It is great to be able to give the students some insight into how this huge industry works- meeting industry insiders gives the students a vision of how they could get involved in creating films.’ Gillian Siddle of Filmclub said of the students,' The Boswells student asked some fantastic questions and their behaviour and demeanour were a credit to the school, as always.'
