At a time when Parent/Teacher Associations in Secondary Schools are getting few and far between, Friends of Boswells School (FOBS) is thriving and successful. As Boswell’s Parents, College Students, Ex-Student or Members of Staff you are automatically a member. If you think you can help there are various ways and your involvement can be as little or as much as you would like.
Working with the Heads of Skills Areas and Senior Management we aim to identify and supply equipment and resources that can not be covered from usual budgets and would have to be done without. In recent years there have been some spectacular successes including a substantial donation towards the specialist schools bid and equipment for the new sports hall. Alongside the major projects we have still been able to support the more day to day needs of all skill areas in the school. In the coming year we will be undertaking another major project to support the School in the improvement of the performance area in the main hall. In addition to raising funds we also provide refreshments for events, productions and parents’ evenings. We also organise three or four social events during the year giving parents a chance to meet. You may wish to support our social events or you may be in a position where you, or maybe your business or employer may be able to donate raffle prizes, either to support a social event or the Grand prize draw at Christmas. The less we spend on these the more money we can make for the school. It may be you are not in a position to give time, but will donate money and this is where our biggest fund raiser comes in - the gift aid scheme which currently raises c. £5,000 per year. Consider this – There are 1500 students in this school. If every parent gave £1 per week per pupil, less than the cost of a coke and a bag of crisps, we would raise £100,000 per year. Think what a difference that would make!! If you can join the gift aid scheme please click here/follow the link to download a bank mandate form. FOBS is a registered charity. If your employer has support schemes such as matched earning or nominated projects we can also benefit from these and would be pleased to discuss them with you.
